Im looking to run Gore canyon this year for my first time. I plan on kayaking the canyon the days before the downriver race. Would this be a good time to go, considering that there will be many great kayakers, and a lot of saftey set up?

Anyone have a answer or suggestion??

thank,
Josh

Hey Josh, you are correct. The Gore race is a great first time. It was mine a few years ago and it was a blast. The saftey in numbers idea is always a plus, but can lead to some confusion on the river. Sometimes lots of people leads to breaks in concentration, at least for me. 855 is a great level for first time

Just don't go down it for the first time on the actual race day. It gets crazy. Droping into Gore rapid is like droping into a sweet hit in the Breck jib park on a sunny weekend afternoon. I wouldn't run anything with idea that Joe "great kayaker" is going to have a rope waiting for you either. Make sure that you go with some friends and you all have each other's back. Race weekend is a good time to get on the run though.
