we are looking to modify an existing low-head dam that is leftover from the old industrial days of New Milford, Connecticut. Many people in the town would like to see it removed or at least made "safer" because several people have drowned in it. A group of us are proposing some modifications to make some playspots.

The easiest spot to model it after is Z Dam in Richmond, Virginia.

I wonder what other spots have been born from modified dams
Where?
How have they benefitted the towns?

There are a couple of things you all can do to help this project along:

1. Give you general impression of it. Basically any feedback from as simple as "yes it's a good idea" to "this is what I think you should do"

2. For those who know of other spots made from dams, tell us your experiences there both as a boater, a tourist, and even perhaps from an environmental perspective.

Our initial proposals are due in about two weeks so we have very little time to develop this further. Any feedback, support, information you can contribute here will be a big help.

Wouldn't it be nice to have another playspot in the world?

Thankyou.

Thanks for asking Ben.

Yes. Just post here on this thread. I've asked at a couple of different places and will keep track of them so we can see how this develops and find out just how wide spread and successful this trend towards removing and/or modifying low head dams really is.

for now, I'd love to know everyones different experiences and thoughts.

thank you.
