so we're praying that the Embudo will come in for Friday or Saturday so we can stop on our way to California from NC. We are wondering about campsites near the river. Is there any national forest or other free car camping spots in the area?
I think you can camp right at the take out draw trail parking lot. I've camped up by the confluence of the rio grande and rio pueblo. This is
NOT very close, but works well if folks have less ambitious floaters in the party. PM Atom if he doesn't chime in.
I would advise Not camping at the takeout of the Embudo, the folks living at the base of the arroyo would not appreciate it and some unsavory local loco Vato types might make a late night visit to "check" you out. Where the Rio Pueblo meets the Rio grande is good and only about 30 minutes away. The Put in to the Embudo is also okay camping. Atom..
