Just purchased my first Drysuit (NRS), and while it fits fine I'm finding the inner gasket around the neck is really tight. It feels a bit like I'm being strangled and my face turns a nice shade of red. I don't think I have a particularly thick neck.

I get that it's supposed to fit tight but I'm wondering if this is something that will stretch out a little bit over time? Or am I doing something wrong with it? Thanks...

I always say stretch first, cut second. In the past I have used different items to stretch them out, football, right sized tupperware.

If it is unbearable almost all gaskets have faint rings on the inside. Use an exacto knife and start small.

Don't cut it. My experience is that it will overstretch and degrade and fail faster. Stretch it. Use a road cone or similar jig. Overnight or 24 hrs will usually do it. I wouldn't want a new neck gasket that wasn't strangling me...if its comfortable new, it will become floppy and loose as it stretches.

It helps to grease the inside of the neck with silicone grease - use food grade or the stuff you get in dive shops - the hardware store stuff may have solvents or contaminants that are bad for the gaskets - before you stretch. It will slide on and off whatever you use easier. I also use it for paddling. The gaskets last longer that way.

Since they say it will stretch or "break in" with you wearing it, I found an item about the size of my neck, maybe a bit larger, and put the gasket around that for a week or so. Checked it every day and eventually it seemed like it wasn't strangling me as much. I'd go with something slightly larger than your neck for more time rather than a really big item for short time. You don't want to overstretch it.

I used a 9lb CO2 bottle that I use for my kegerator.

Don't cut it stretch it. The more gasket length around your neck the better the seal is as it stretches out and gets looser over the years.

That sensation of being choked never totally goes away, you just get used to it. I've cut and stretched, I prefer stretching them myself. I used a large coffee can, but I have a big neck. If you are turning red, I'd try and stretch it first.
