The filter set up is 2 spin down filters 1 with 200micron screen and 1 with a 50 micron screen to remove most of the grit (also a pretty coarse suction sceen on end of suction hose). Both spin down filters have a drain so can be backwashed from the pressure tank that is downstream. then I have a 4.5" x10" 5 micron whole home filter before it goes out to the misters (big blue filter housing with pp sediment filter).

Will have spare pump and extra pp sediment filter incase it plugs up. Will also have alum if I need to flocculate water in buckets...

I had a miserable hot trip down the ditch a couple times so I figured the extra weight and comfort it will provide is worth it

I just finally finished my big winter DIY project of making a "dry" box out of wood. I put dry in quotes but due to the gasket materials I used I actually feel pretty confident on the waterproofness. The inner gasket is a waterproof closed cell foam that regains it's shape with no pressure on it and conforms to the top lip when compressed.

It's 1/2" Baltic birch plywood for the sides, 3/4" on the top and bottom surface. Polyurethane coated inside and "deckote" outside (which I have on other rafting gear and has proven very robust). Rope handles with pvc tubing. Stainless 24" piano hinge and stainless butterfly latches from Amazon.

I am not a carpenter by any stretch and mistakes were made but I went slow and apparently I have the skills to correct those mistakes to get to a "good enough" level of qc.

Reason for building is I'm cheap and shipping to Canada is insane for something that size, and also I like being able to make the exact right size for my setup, which is not always easy with aluminum dry boxes.

This will be my seat with the lime green box pad from stitchesnstuff.

Very very cool!!

You know, before people had aluminum dryboxes, they had boxes they made out of...plywood!
Keep it painted so the wood doesn't soak/swell and it should give you a couple decades of service.

The raft I grew up on had wooden dryboxes my dad made. Worked quite well- for a couple decades.
Eventually they started to leak a bit, so I sanded, patched, glassed, repainted them. Used them for several more years. I made someone a very good deal on the whole package after I bought my new boat. I hope they're still in service.

Thanks!

I can't recall the brand of the gasket but it's more waterproof under more compression and regains it's shape while not under pressure. It takes a bit of compression force on the lid to latch it down.

That’s cool! What is that plastic used for? Where did you find if?
Milk crates... Actually look at the crate on the right of the top pic. It's a crate from coca-cola. I was going to cut up a milk crate until I found these. I liked them because they were already the right height. I think milk crates might be a little heavier dutier though.

Working on a large stern bag to fit my boat. Footprint is the inside dimensions of my boat, flaring out 8-10” at the top of the tubes and then another 30” of vertical walls. Will be doing either grommets or D-rings for the draw closure, followed by a big lid. Using 5mm gauge stainless rings and 1500# polyester webbing.

Contemplating using a piece of polycarbonate for a floor

Will update as it comes together this week. (Launching on the Grand on the 29th, so I’ve got a deadline)

@Bootboy what is the fabric material you are using? Phifertex? Trampoline?
It’s 90% shade mesh.

Textilene and Suntex are 2 major brands. It usually comes in widths ranging from 36” - 96” wide, depending on your needs. Buy it at 48” because I don’t need both dimensions of anything I make greater than 48” so this reduces waste.

Made a drop bag specifically for rocket boxes. I positioned the straps such that they run under the center of each rocket box (5 in total). I used stainless steel webbing sliders to fasten it to the frame. I think it’s silly to waste 10 cam buckles on one bag for an application that doesn’t require tensioning under load. Just set the slides and double them back. Way less bulk and weight.

Also doing a hatch cover/table top to retain the rockets. The height of the rockets is such that it matches the height of my water jugs that live on my frame rails.

And yes, this boat is set up in my house. It’s still winter and I can’t do this outside and my garage isn’t big enough.

Bag is coming together. Just need to put the 30” wall around the remaining 180°.

Really glad I went with the tapered bottom that give me so much more room in the top of the bag.

Bought a sheet of ACX that I’m contemplating cutting to the dimensions of the bottom of the bag for a floor. Debating to run it inside, or outside of the bag.

Or maybe I’ll just skip the floor all together and put soft stuff in the bottom.

Thoughts?

GREAT solution!
Murdoch’s has some beefier strap slides than NRS

I use 1.5” or 2” webbing, sewn or on slides to hang coolers. Great solution for drop bags
The stainless are hard to find at a good price. They end up costing about the same as a cam buckle, but the benefit is worth it to me.

I have 1” polyester webbing in 3 different weights. The critical and high abrasion applications get the 3,000lb stuff.

1.5” is nice for grommets though.

Probably going to go with D-rings instead of grommets to close the cargo bag.
