Does anyone know what this is? If so, what are your thoughts on it re: ww kayaking safety given recent discussion on pfd being separated from boater during rescue situation?

I would be happy to lift you up to make sure it holds fast.

If your PFD is tight then it isn't needed. If you keep your pfd loose then maybe you need a wedgie strap. The strap at the bottom that goes under your rib cage is supposed to keep it on under any circumstance.

I have been told by many rangers at various put in's that the strap is not a substitute for an inadequate pfd, such as a water ski vest.

Won't work for kayaking, the spray skirt will get in the way. It's great for rafting and swiftwater rescue though, I've strapped in several pear shaped custies before

I have improvised a harness using a loop of webbing for a vertical extraction. Works with a carabiner to the loop on the greenjacket. I would only do this for rescue/extraction purposes, not during paddling.
