i am looking for information on these tributary creeks into the middle fork salmon. we have a trip next week and I would love to incorporate some 'expedition style', preferably class V boating into the trip. what is the longest, funnest, hardest, and easiest to get to? who has done these. all i know is that big is class 3/4 and dumps into the middle fork somewhere around the end of the canyon. how about big/camas, i think that there is some class IV/V on that one, where does it meet the Mf. how about loon?

thanks

the bottom 3 miles of loon are great, with easy hiking access and with one class 4+ and a nice little almost-gorge. The 20 or so miles above that, from the airstrip down, was gorgeous class 3.

I haven't ran Loon Cr. but I hiked up from the MF all the way to the footbridge that crosses Loon in 2007. The mile or so from the Middle Fork to the hot springs is inconsequential Class III-. The two miles or so above that to the bridge is a gorge with significant Class IV+/Class V rapids. Lots of poorly placed wood as I remember too, so scout accordingly.

There is no water in Idaho.

Idaho sucks.

Don't come here. The creeks suck.

Lots of bears and thistles and rocks. And snakes.

Loon creek is cool but the gorge had wood last year in bad spots. We put in just below the class V and most of the wood.Big creek was a real gem i thought ,not class V but great class IV and III you can hike for a long ways for some good white water. The middle fork trip was one of the best things I have ever done.
