A few of us are planning a California trip. Last time, we started in the Kern Valley, worked up to the Merced, then to the ocean, then to the American. We had some good creeking, surfing and paddling but a lot of driving in a weeks time. If anyone is interested in such an adventure, drop me a line at [email protected]. Also, any suggestions on the best place to go given the time frame?

Tim,

I will be heading out on the 21st for our annual trip. Assuming you hit the usual suspects (kaweah, Brush, T, Dinky, etc...) while on last years trip, I would highly recommend heading into the Downieville area just north of Truckee. Downieville is one of the coolest towns in the USA.

There is sooo many amazing, steep, but surprisingly not overly scary creeks/rivers in and around Downieville (Pauley/Lav, Sierra City, Good years bar, SF Yuba, etc...), that you could easily spend 4 days based there doing more than one run a day and never do the same run twice. Don't get me wrong, there are some VERY scary creeks also if that is what you are into.

My buddy owns the Downieville inn (takeout for Pauley, Lav and Sierra City) and he does shuttle for any kayakers that stay at his hotel. What a great option.

Have fun.

Thanks for the beta Craw. Maybe we can hook up for shuttles, etc...
