2015 release dates for Idaho's Black Canyon of the Bear River have been set for April 11, 12, 24, 25 and 26, and May 16, 17, 30 and 31.

This is a burley class IV run with one portagable class V. If you wish to check it out and paddle, consider staying at our resort and sustainable eco-village at Bristol Cabins in Lava Hot Springs, only 15 minutes from Black Canyon of the Bear. Alongside our beautiful mountain village is the popular Portneuf River for beginner and intermediate paddlers. We also have the worlds best hot springs!

This is a sweet run and offers some nice off-season action or a great stop on the way to or from an Idaho adventure. This is also a huge success story for AW, who following many years of hard work by staff and volunteers, secured these releases through the new FERC license in 2003 for the hydro project that historically left this reach with just a small trickle of water. It's important that people show up and take advantage of these releases - and trust me, it's worth it! Even with a long drive, getting a weekend of good flows on a great stretch should be hard to pass up for the thoroughly addicted.
