We plan to be around Aspen this weekend and are looking for class III/VI- (low water VI-) recommendations for ww canoing.

Slaughterhouse at 1500 seems to be a little high for my abilities. I have ran it at 750ish, but 1500 might be a little pushy. So I was thinking about upper and lower Woodies at this flow. Is this on the high for those sections? Are these sections fun for a class III/VI- boater at these levels?

Also, what about lower Frying pan III+ at 300 CFS? Is this doable/creeky or a boat beater at that level?

The other section I was considering is on the Crystal, Avalanche to BRB, currently at 1240cfs.

We have two days and are looking for recommendations from someone in the know that has paddled those sections or wants to recommend somthing else.

One final question, do we need that habitat stamp or are there any access issues with these runs?

Thanks,

I think you would enjoy either Toothache or the Av. to BRB run and both have plenty of water and no access issues or stamps needed.(A few things are still free here:) For Toothache I would suggest going from Stein Park which is the take-out for Slaughterhouse and go to either Wingo junct. or just before Basalt where ther is a small takeout on the old road you can see from the up valley bridge above Basalt. Hope that helps...

At 300, the Lower Fryingpan has a fun III+/IV- at the put-in, a lot of shallow floating, a couple riffles, and a few other rapids that are fun but manky. One or two of the lower drops was a bit boat-abusive but fun in a kayak. If your OC draws more water, it would definitely not be fun. Otherwise, it may be okay.

lower pan

AJ,
I've done the lower pan at these levels in a decked c1, I would think it would be scrapey for an OC. you're in a tareau now aren't you? I don't think I would want to be in anything bigger unless it comes up some.

Lower pan at 300 is going to be a but bruiser fo shizzle. I'd hit up toothache from wilton jaffe park (take out for house run) to basalt. ever think of doing marble to redstone, bogan canyon is clean and super fun. Just got to portage the 2 colverts, which you can scout on the way to the in. av to brb run will be a slow for a IV boater...
