Absolutely. We also have pool sessions right now. Check out http://www.pikespeakwhitewaterclub.com/.
Not sure about Boulder being the promised land but depending on your religous/political persuasion you may be in for quite a shock.
Hey, bucklmd --
I feel like I left the promised land, too (Idaho)
No, seriously, good paddling there (and potatoes).
But I'll be making trips from the Springs AT LEAST once a week, to the Ark and anywhere else.
And ASAP, too - as soon as there's something class 4 or under, free of ice, I'm looking to go.
Shoot me a message if you're going.
What's up, gh? Sho-sho in a couple weeks? Maybe as a warmup for the gorge shortly after?
I live in Woodland Park and like you am jonesin to boat. Last year I was paddelin the Bailey in late march with plenty of ice and low flows. I was also boating clear creek as low as 160 but 200 cfs is a pretty good low flow for black rock. Bear creek out of Morrison flows early as well. Keep looking at this site and you will quickly learn what is flowing as soon as it is possible to bash down. The big flows come in may.
Sorry to hear you been sick, greg.
I was real sick bout two weeks ago - lasted nine days.
Anyway, I'll look to go somewhere this week, and I'll be ready for Parkdale next week - For the next couple months though, I can't paddle Saturdays - have to work. I can only go Sunday and Monday, for the most part.
I'd run with you, but I have to work today.
I'll go Sunday if that works for you, but I'd prefer to go somewhere without ice (Gorge is probably icy, don't you think?)
Regardless of what happens this week, we should all plan on something for next weekend, like plan it in the next day or two instead of Friday night.
I'd definitely like to paddle next Sunday - gh had mentioned Parkdale and that works for me, though I'd entertain other ideas.
Let's make something happen.
3:00pm is the teime. The old Parkdale take-out is about 1/2 mile up stream of hte regular improved Parkdale take-out.
To get there from Colorado Springs, take highway 115 (NEVADA AVE) South out of Colorado srpings, passing Fort Carson and NORAD on the way. about 30 miles later you are passing through the town of Penrose. Take Highway 50 (right) into Canon City. Last chance to grab food. Stay on highway 50 out of town toward Parkdale. You will drive past the road to the Royal Gorge Bridge. Down the hill and across a bridge with the River passing below you. This is Parkdale. Not so much a town as a location on the map. 1/2 mile later you pass The Official Parkdale take-out on the left. 1/2 mile or so later you see a large pull-out on the right, with a set of stairs leading to the river and a smallish beach. The other side of the river has a small silo-type structure on the bank near here, a good landmark.
If you are running late and we've already run shuttle, we'll be putting in above Spike-buck most likely, could change on what people want to do.
Hope to see you there.
My cell # is 719 661-4377 if you have questions. No cell coverage at Parkdale so call before 2:30.
