It is almost time for Animas River Days! Who will be there this year?

Animas River Days is a nonprofit organization in Durango, Colorado, dedicated to celebrating the Animas River's role in our community by providing a venue for public gathering with whitewater competitions as well as education of the community regarding waterway resources and conservation.

(05/22) Wednesday

7:00 - 9:30 Fundraiser Party! Live entertainment by Kainos, Mike Madden and Asa Fire Tribe with Durango Drums, silent auction of outdoor and boating gear, ski/hot springs passes, golf and much more, chance to win an MWS dry box, get your yellow ducky for the 6/8 ducky race (prize is an NRS Tyrant Standup Paddle Board and Werner Paddle), Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino Del Rio.

6:30 Movie Night, including local Adventure Films and Photography, kids 12 and under make a poster with the theme "Wild Rivers - Wild Kids" and bring with you to receive FREE admission, doors open at 5:30, Smiley Building, 1309 East 3rd Avenue. ARD will be giving away a Hala Gear Butterknife Paddle valued at $299 at intermission. Get your ARD T-shirt and last chance to get an offical ARD pint glasses in 2013! They will not be for sale at the park! Tickets: $10.00 ($12.00 at the door). Ticket's available at Maria's, Pine Needle and sanjuancitizens.org.

Planetarium at Durango Discovery Museum - Family Night $5/person/show. All proceeds from admission go to Animas River Days.

Shows are approximately 40 minutes long with 10 minutes of discussion afterwards and 10 minutes in-between time to switch over to the next show on the hour.

5:00-6:00 Water in the World: A discussion of water resource issues on a global scale, impact of population growth, global change, and increasing expectations on our use of our finite fresh water resources.

6:00-7:00 Water in the Animas, San Juan, and Colorado Rivers: A discussion of the surface water resources of the Four Corners area and a discussion of how it is entwined with the overall issues of the Colorado River system that provides water to the arid Southwest.

7:30-8:30 Geological setting of the San Juan Basin and the Four Corners Region: A discussion of the broad geological features that define the landscapes of the Four Corners, the evolution of the landscapes through time and their impacts on our current settings and resources.

8:30-9:30 Geology of the Mesa Verde area with a discussion of coal, oil, and gas resources: A discussion of the geological factors that control the distribution of sandstone beds and hydrocarbon resources in the area of Mesa Verde Park and the Ute Mountain Tribal Park.

9:30-10:30 Star Talk: Take visitors on tours through the known universe. Start out at Earth, explore the Solar System, fly through the stars and eventually out of our Milky Way Galaxy, and out to the edges of the Big Bang.
