The Tallapoosa river is about 25 minutes from monkeytown.If it's running,it's a great class 3 with tallapoosa falls being 4-.Theres a play hole called sticky hole on river left about a third of the way down.It's great for any moves.The Coosa river is only about 15 minutes from monkeytown.It's class 2 with a nice class 3 wave.It's probably more likely to be running with the current drought.If theres water in the state,there is endless class 3-5 within a few hours.Check AW for flows and beta. Bama boatin' is great!

but you can go to alabamawhitewater.com for more beta. the coosa and tallapoosa are both dam controlled play rivers about 30-45 minutes from montgomery. there is actually a fair amount of class 4-5 creeking in the northeastern part of the state, but it is all rain dependent. unless a hurricane rolls through the gulf while you're there, most of that stuff won't start running until late fall at the earliest.

The Ocoee will be running and it's great III+ (IV) water. One of the best play runs in the U.S. Don't miss it if you're in the area. There are also plenty of rivers (mentioned above) that you could hit in AL.
It's never a stretch to assume that there is whitewater in the Southeastern U.S. There's tons of it and it runs when it rains (which is generally often) or when power is needed, and almost every southern state has it - TN, AL, KY, SC, NC and GA.

Check with Store Locations & Hours - Rock Creek Outfitters The have shops in Chattanooga, TN and Benton, TN, both very close to the Ocoee.
