Hi everyone,

I just found you all on the internet and I'm hoping to get some ideas from those of you who know rivers.

My five year old and I would love to go on a river trip this summer and we're trying to figure out where to go. We live in Santa Cruz, CA and we're planning to go along with a friend of ours who lives in Denver, so we're open to either state. The absolute best time for us to go would be July 19th to the 25th, but I realize that's really soon.

We've looked into a couple of guided trips that are geared toward kids, but they're out of our price range for now. Last year we canoed down the Russian River on our own (from Healdsburg to Jenner) and camped along the way. I'd be up for doing something like that again if there are any other rivers equally as mellow. We'd also be open to going with other families.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks so much, Linda

Try this Ruby Horse Thief It is flat with one II+ rapid.

There are also super mellow stretches on the Upper Colorado but I'm not sure of put-ins/take-outs to avoid the occasional rapids. Some of the southwestern rivers as well maybe (San Juan, Dolores, Gunnison) and the Yampa/Green in NW CO?
