I'm in the market for a new creeking shoe. I've been a 5.10 shoe wearer for many seasons now, mainly due to the sticky sole. Had the canyoneers (awesome but big), water tennies (fell apart quickly), savants (never dried out and fell apart). I have had shoes that did not have good traction, and its a huge liability creeking, so I only want GREAT traction, but sure wish it would come with a great shoe as well.

Was going to get a pair of astral rasslers when I heard they had 5 10 soles, but the new models this year have astral Gss soles. I have not tried out the Gss nor, have I heard any feedback on them from folks who are running creeks.

Anyone tried out the new astral Gss soles? How does it compare to 5 10?

I'm debating about going back to the canyoneer or trying the rasslers but I want to know its the real deal traction before I buy.

I have a pair of the astral hiyaks and love how they work. The rubber is siped(sp?) and sticks really well on wet rock,roots,etc. The sole is thinner so it fits well in my kayaks, and I am able to manipulate/flex the shoe in a bunch of different ways which is nice whilst climbing around. The only drawback I have found is that the sole is a softer compound then the 5.10's and is seeming to wear a bit quicker.

I too got the hiyaks. They work good. I wish they dried faster. My guess is that the brewers would dry even slower.

Astral Rasslers are good. Rubber is similar to 5.10 water tennies, but the soles are stiffer and they seem more durable (not hard to do). Just don't hike in them barefoot unless you want huge heel blisters.

The Astral GSS sole is very sticky. I've been wearing them for over a season and had no issues with grip what so ever. I love my Brewers and plan on getting another pair when my current ones wear out.

I've done some testing for Astral since 5.10 stopped supplying rubber. Last year 5.10 still had a slight edge, but this year in the environment I was testing in (wet polished granite), the new G.SS rubber on a pair of brewers had a slight edge.

ASTRAL all the way!

ASTRAL makes outstanding sticky,sturdy and durable shoes that dry fast. And shoes that you can casually wear in everyday life. You could go with either the Brewers or Hiyaks I believe would be the best for you. I think the Rasslers would also work but they are not something you would necessarily need. But if you like the style of the Rasslers go ahead!
