I have the opportunity to purchase a 13' NRS Otter that was manufactured in 2001. I haven't seen it in person yet as it's about a 4 hour drive away. Supposedly in good shape. I was wondering if anyone out there can give me information about the 2001 manufacturing year. Is the material the same that they use now? Where was it manufactured? Anything I need to look out for? Thanks!

I believe NRS has been using the same Pennel Orca (Hypalon) and Leafield valves since the mid 90s. They are produced in their plant in Mexico.

Inflate the floor to pressure and run if any I beams are failing. They probably aren't. Inflate opposite corners with the opposing corners deflated shop vac tight so you can see if baffles leak. Then switch. If it doesn't leak air with a quick inspection and soapy water spritz to look for leaks, it's a good boat. Tell the owner that you expect your inspection to take an hour, and bring cold beer. Bring a bottle of 303 and give it a good rub down after the soapy water treatment. Bring a few old towels.
