Hi, I am a class 4- boater from CA going out to Salida , Co over the Fourth for five days. I was planning a mountain biking/play boating/river running trip. However, the Arkansas is at a high level, corrrect? So, I need to know whether to take my 2 Fun or H3: river runner/play boat or the creek boat. Is there any good play in the play parks along the Arkansas at the current flows? I could also just do class 3 or so with the 2 Fun and enjoy the natural play and river running. Or, should I take advantage of the higher water and do class 4 with the H3 and then not partake in any play park action?

I am looking for advice, so any comments would be helpful. Also, any ideas on good mountian biking in the area would be welcome as well.

Thank you from a first-time thread starter.

Bring both!! Guessing that helps little but that would be optimal. If you do have to decide I would base it on what you want to do more of, river running or play boating. With the 2 Fun I bet Browns/Fractions would still be fun as long as you have a strong roll, then the town spots from what I hear have been awesome too so you can both playboat and do some down river runs. And I know a lot of people still in their playboat's in #'s and the royal gorge right now, its all about what your comfortable with.

I believe you will not be disappointed either way and yes it is a great (big) flow right now.

It depends on what you prefer to do. If you prefer play...Salida and BV parks are going off and Brown's Canyon offers truely epic play. If you prefer high-speed hole punching, then bring the H3 for Granite through the Numbers (which is probably IV+ at current levels). If you like to be gripped, then try Numbers in the play boat at current levels, although probably NR for a Class IV- boater.

If it were me: Bring the H3 on the off chance that you get to run some of the solid arky IV. You can always demo a playboat from CKS in Buena Vista for Browns or the kayak parks.

Thanks for the information on the boat choice - it is greatly appreciated. I think the Fun will be going with me - it's more versatile.
