Has anyone run the lower canyons in Big Bend? What's the recent news on safety of the US/Mex border?
I'm trying to dig up some helpful first hand accounts to decide if it's a wise idea or not ... I've been told by some it's asking for trouble, people have been shot, BBNP is ranked 3rd most...
Does anybody have info on the various stretches through Big Bend NP? Rapid descriptions, times of the year for optimal flows (for rafts and cats cats), just general info. The ol' Google search did not turn up too many sources.
p.s. Was thinking about late April early May.

Headed down to Big Bend for a canoe/kayak trip in Santa Elena Canyon soon. I know the official rule is that you are not supposed to be on the Mexico side to hike or camp with some few exceptions for scouting rapids. Do private boaters obey this rule? Is this rule enforced?
I'm planning to drag 2 rafts down the ark tomorrow. Being 350 cfs I expect a fair amount of headache. Am I totally hosed with the flows this low now or will I have enough channel for most of the float?
I know I'll have to get out several times to walk the rafts across flats.
I was hoping you might have some advice for me. I am really new at this - started this summer, just picked up a CR 80, etc. I have been in the pool, on flat water a few times, & had lessons. I can wet exit & T exit. 90% up on rolls. The question: I am camping on the Ark at Labor Day. I was...
Does anyone know how long it would take to float from Big Bend to Rincon at the current flow? I think about 700 cfs. Heading down Sunday and want to make a good trip. I think Salida East to Rincon will be to short so I was hoping to make it from big bend in a day trip. Any info would be awesome!
Wondering if anyone has any good river trip knowledge or hiking info or anything else awesome for the Big Bend of the Rio Grande down in 'mess with Texas'...
I'm heading there the end of March and have a few days to kill in that area. Are there any day trips on the Grand?
Hey, I am jonesing for some warm weather and water (even if it is flat water). Does anyone out there have any beta on the Rio Grande through Big Bend National Park? I am considering a December or January float. Will there be enough water? Is it hard to get a permit? Anything else worth...
