After hearing stories of mining, and seeing some of the old ladders leading into the canyon I would like to learn more about the history of Murtaugh. A google search yielded nothing, but brief history, combined with information on how I could pay for a rafting trip (No thanks) Any way if any one knows actual history on the canyon or a website that I can read up on it myself that would be cool.
Murtaugh history: Farmers stole all the water and threw trash into the canyon, Evel Knievel tried to jump over it. Long ago, it didn't taste like cow piss and fertilizer.
You can look into the history of irrigation in the Magic Valley. I know there's a lot of literature on that (and, actually, a very ripe area for scholarly pursuit for you budding academics). That would tell you a lot about the use of the Snake River, and its dams and canals in the area.
