Shipley smokes Tao at Lyons Outdoor Games
Retired or not Shipley will smoke Tao at the Lyons Outdoor Games Creek race this year. Tao better be ready to cough up that $500 he bet. Berman: $500 Says No One Can Beat Me | Canoe & Kayak Magazine

Too Slow

I would say that Shipley would have a great shot at the W. Question is does he still have every crushing stroke?
Scott, you out there?

ACC 06-03-2010 10:47 AM

Don't you worry, Matt, the master will crush every single stroke like you have never seen.

I think the question is does Scott still have the competitive juice to take up the challange? As an old, married dad he may not have the fire these day's. What say you Scott?

Shipley may be pushing 40 and Tao may be in his 20s but it's Shipley's home creek. He's got to have the advantage. Should be a good race.

I can practically surf Scotts wave in the pool during polo...

Go home team!

How many World Championships does Tao have? I know Scott has 3 and it is his home creek run. Tough call, but I think Scott has an edge. There is something to be said for age and treachery -vs- youth and whatever. Slalom paddlers bring a more precise set of paddling skills to the table too.

I'm not blasting any of you who are invested in this, but why do you care. If they are competing against each other, that’s cool, but I don't get it. For me, boating is about what I can do with people I like doing it with. I can't see getting invested in another paddlers abilities? Park and play and manufacture events are cool to see what equipement is out there and learn some new tricks that I can try to emulate, but does anyone but the sponsored paddlers care who wins?

Enlighten me?

Canada, some people find it fun to bomb down creeks at high speed, without stopping, with their friends for fun. If you enjoy that then eventually you think it might be fun to race against your bros and whomever. I don't think it's about proving abilities at all. Shit, I usually lose and I can tell you that it is fun to bomb down a creek as fast as you can, and fun to boatercross with guys like Holcombe and Bechtel because you realize how fast and powerful they are as paddlers. I don't actually care who wins, but the bet that Tao placed is worthy of some shit-talking among those that will be racing. Keep in mind that last years race was 1/2 locals and 1/2 pros. I think some of the locals had more fun, and they lost.
