What Happened on the Poudre Monday?

I have just learn that a coworker was paddling on the Poudre drainage on Monday and passed away in a on river event. Has anybody heard of any kayaking events that occurred on Monday?

Could it be this: Body of motorcyclist found in Poudre identified as missing Hawaii man | coloradoan.com | The Coloradoan,

Or maybe he is thinking of Derk?

Derk died on Saturday.

Agree. There was an announcement in the Coloradoan on Monday, about Derk as well ... so thought they might have caught that article or thought the finding of that motorcylist was somehow paddling related.

The name of the individual was Jack Gulzow and the incident is being reported to have occurred on Monday NOT to be confused with Derk's unfortunate mishap.

Sounds like some serious confusion.

Not on the Poudre.

HOT SPRINGS – The body of an Aurora, Colo., man who is believed to have drowned was recovered from Cold Brook Reservoir at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Fall River County Sheriff Jeff Tarrell confirmed that the body of Jack Gulzow, 26, was recovered by a search and rescue diver. Gulzow had been reported missing by his family in Hot Springs on Monday evening.

Tarrell said that he believes high winds from a severe thunderstorm in the area may have contributed to the accident. Tarrell said that Gulzow had been kayaking by himself Monday afternoon at the lake on the north side of Hot Springs.

After Gulzow was reported missing, search efforts began at the lake, continuing until 2 a.m., before resuming at daylight on Tuesday. Gulzow was found in approximately 12-feet of water just south of the swim beach on the west side of Cold Brook.

Chief deputy and county coroner Rich Mraz said that cause of death is a probable drowning, pending an autopsy. He said results of the autopsy could be available by the end of the week. The kayak has not been found as of yet.

A brief but severe thunderstorm passed through the Hot Springs area Monday afternoon. Mraz said that he had been at Cold Brook earlier and had observed whitecaps on the small lake. Wind gusts Monday afternoon are believed to have been in the 35-40 mph range.
