Who makes the best guide paddle for rafting?

I finally bought my first raft (NRS 130E) after researching and looking at them over the last several months! I bought a bunch of the cheap Carlisle paddles for friends and whoever else goes with me, but I'd like to buy myself a nice long paddle that i can guide with. I've looked at Werner, Mitchell, and Sawyer paddles online, but what do you guys use and suggest? And how do you determine what length works best for a guide paddle?

I have had a Werner Guide paddle for 5 years and love it but I did break the T grip off, Werner did fix it for free tho. I love the flex the paddle has so all the force of strokes don't go into your shoulder. My wife has a Sawyer and it is also a great paddle with good flex. As far as sizing I like the T grip to be right at my chin when standing the paddle directly in front of you with the blade on the ground.

Hope this info helps, be SAFE and have FUN

Yeh, that Werner guide paddle looks nice, but the Sawyer Guide stick looks really nice as well! Have you ever used a Sawyer by chance?

I have been using the same Werner Guide stick since 2005, and it has taken some serious abuse across the country guiding in Maine, West Virginia, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Colorado. I have never has it break or the T grip come loose, but after almost 9 years of hard full-time summer guiding it is still going strong, just with a slightly smaller blade now.

all the above are good but if you want a bomb proof paddle find an old norse paddle .
I have been using one for 30 years and it is still incredible.
I KNOW THEY ARE NOT MADE ANY MORE. But I did buy one on the Buzz this summer
for 50 bucks. There are some around they are the best thing going .

I have seen the Sawyers in action on the Gauley and it was a heavy battle axe (just like the Norse). The only folks that were really "working the stick" were the big, corn-fed boys from WestVA. The Werner is a lighter and easier on the body stick.

I've got a Werner and a Carlisle. After I got the Werner, the Carlisle felt like it must have a special cast-iron shaft....
