What do you carry your major med kit IN?

Not what's contained in it - but rather how do you organize and carry it? Pelican, rocket box, ammo can etc?

I'm specifically talking about a group medical kit and not a smaller personal sized one.

I use two .50 Cal / 5.56 MM ammo cans that were powder coated red and have a big white + on them. One carries stuff needed for a typical day / overnight trip and the other is more extensive with more expedition stuff.

a watershed bag

I am of the opinion that most accidents happen off the water and the mode of injury will be something away from the boats. I want a snatch and grab with the ability to hike to the injury or can be easily retrievable for some one to go and get.

We use a "major" and "minor" first aid kit. The major goes into the rocket box and generally stays on the boat. The box is nice because it will protect the kit from getting crushed, stepped on, or wet. The minor kit fits in a small drybag and goes on hikes.

Major 1st Aid in a Pelican 1400 organized with a large three compartment bag from Chinook Medical. It's normally strapped on the steel decking near the captains seat for easy reach. I can carry it all in the box or run with the bag. Usually doesn't get opened during a trip as I have my small 1st Aid kit in my Watershed.

Two 50 cal Ammo Boxes, both painted white. Box #1 is trauma/surgical box and Box #2 is medical.

I'm an MD and carry (and have unfortunately used) more than might be typical.

Does anyone know if Grand and/or other NPS regs require major medical kit to all be in one box?

Thx

Jon
