Herm Hoopes is a good dude and wrote a lot of great articles about the history and places of the CO Plateau.

I was fortunate enough to go on a number of interpretative trips with him

Hard to find a guy with more passion for a river than Herm Hoops. I never got to boat with him but I spoke with him several times while he was writing the history of inflatable rafts. I was happy to be able to be a part of a hell of a project. He put a ton into it. Must have been great to be on the water with him, on the Green especially.
