System 6 repair

Hey, I have a 14' Hyside that has a urethane coating on the bottom. The urethane is System 6. I have a leak in one of the chambers, and am thinking about what is the best way to patch it. Can I put a patch directly over the urethane, or do I have to somehow take the urethane in that area off to put on the patch? If I do have to take it off, what is the best way to remove the urethane?

Thanks for your help.

Sotar has a couple of liquid urethane products you could use to seal small holes.
