Rafting Footwear Question

My wife is having some problems with her toes and ankles getting chewed up from the raft (abrasions). She currently is wearing chaco. Has anyone had similar issues? And what are some other ideas for footwear options? Thanx

Many raft guides have problems with their feet getting super dry and cracked and raw from wearing Chacos all summer.

There are many other options here:

CKS| Womens Paddling Shoes: NRS booties, Teva River Shoes, Keen, Sanuk, & more

The Keen Gorge boot is probably the best whitewater footwear out there IMO, and on sale at the moment...

I gave up on open sandals of any kind (Chaco, Teva, Keen) and wear enclosed water shoes now. My current favorite is the Teva Churn. Very comfy, light, drain fast, don't hold a lot of sand, and have fairly grippy soles. I always wear lightweight socks or neoprene socks with my water shoes to eliminate rubbing or blisters.

The keen looks like it protects the foot well

Just stay away from the Salomon shoes as they have terrible traction when wet.

Only two things I have found that work well.

Climb on creme or Super Salve.

The super salve smells like hippies to me, so I use the climb on.

Cures cracks and chafes for me!

Yes, the 5-fingers are my current raft shoe of choice (after wearing out some Merrill river shoes). Great grip on the raft, sideboard, cooler top, for standing or walking around. Good for swimming, and load, unload, first few trips around camp, even on angular rock and gravel despite a thin sole. I switch to sandals or boots on shore, depending on conditions there.

Toe shoes are creepy. The 5.10 Water Tennie is my favorite. It sticks to rubber VERY well. They aren't the most durable shoe, but they lasted me a year or two as a raft guide and regular boater. The skinny laces are surprisingly strong and have lasted well.
