Raft Trailer

Are you interested in a new real raft trailer? I have owned a Whitewater Raft Trailer for 15 years. It is the way to go. I am ready to retire my 12 foot trailer and have a custom made 16 footer made. The company in Oregon has changed their name to Pacific Coast Trailers. They make raft specific trailers along with others.

After designing a new trailer and making a parts list, I decided that a new one would cost the same as me welding one myself.

My thought is that if you want a new trailer, we could drive out to Oregon from the Front Range, split expenses, and piggy back the trailers back.

They have winter specials going on now and will knock an additional $100 off if I put in a order by Jan. 24th (Setting up jigs). They range from $2000 to $2500. They will customize them too if you want to use it for additional purposes... (Utility, dual axle, snow mobile, winches, etc.).

Call if interested. Eric- 970 405 8002

I'm quite happy with my American Whitewater trailer. I picked mine up for $1300 for the single axle consumer grade model. It is very well behaved while in tow and comes with dunkable axles.

No knee pads required! It was a two year old, never registered example that they needed rid of.

I had this trailer made by ms metalworks in molalla oregon for 1450i it includes a spare winch and roller. It also has 3500 lb torsion axles so you boat doesnt get beat up on the dirt roads. It is 7x 12 but he will build bigger.

Loosers... I spoke with the owner today. He is nice. He sells his basic trailers for $2095.00 in the spring and 1695.00 in the winter. He works for a living and has a crew who does the same. I'm not asking for problems. They build a very nice raft trailer and will customize it for you if you would like. I'm trying to be nice here. My trailer is nice but worn out. I am ordering a new trailer that is custom for me. We can split expenses 1/3 if we piggy back 3 back to CO. Let's work together here. I bought mine originally for $1100. Let's not debate hear. I'm trying to be realistic. Extras cost money. Do you want to buy a nice raft trailer and take a road trip to Oregon? If so, call me. If not, get back to work. Eric Nourse 970 405 8002

American whitewater raft trailers changed hands around 2-3 yrs. ago? They still use the american whitewater name but also go by Pacific Coast Trailers.

Wish I did my homework.

Last Aug. I bought a trailer from them.

He was nice...until I got trailer home and gave a full inspection.

Sent trailer maker emails and phone calls. Responses were vague, hostile, or avoided.

Mid Sep., Won't answer my calls or emails.

I can only be accused of being a sqeaky wheel.

Here's the facts.

This was the webpage from Pacific coast trailers I was familiar with.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/galliforme/01-22-2011051120PM.jpg[/IMG]

So when he posted this craiglist add w) a reduced price I negotiated with owner over phone.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/galliforme/3nb3m63p75T15P55R6a8o6c47363ff1b3101d.jpg[/IMG]

Notice both those adds state a(Dexter) Torflex http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1080235/f/Torflex_Information_4-04.pdf .
This was part of the agreement reached on phone.

So after I gave trailer the insp. this is what I found.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/galliforme/IMGP4986-1.jpg[/IMG]

Is that how a new axle should look?

I then contacted Dexter Torflex axles and they told me I should be able to find lot # on axle.

example-
http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/20K%20Service%20Manual/Axle_Identification_4-10.pdf

I could not find # so i sent pics of axle to Dexter. I was informed that is was not a Dexter axle but a Al-kober axle. http://www.al-kousa.com/prod_rubsus.htm

Oh...

I then called alkober and they also told me that I should be able to find a lot# in center of axle.

Where the number should've been you can see where somebody sanded off the #.

I asked the general manager of al-kober about this and I was informed that makes the axle void of warranty.

Any guesses why somebody would file off the lot/serial #?

Used axle?

Axle cut in half and then welded back together?

Either one of those concerns me with safety and liability issues...

Here's a photo of sanded off area mid axle.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/galliforme/IMGP4990-1.jpg[/IMG]

I also paid around 200.00 dollars for an axle lock and stake pocket kit. I have neither but he still has my money....

Upon instruction from my bank I attempted to recover my money and return trailer through a visa recovery program. It was not the proper venue and all in all not a good experience.

It really sucks to plan and save for years for that raft/trailer and we can't use it as we've been instructed not to use trailer for best chances to recover money and return trailer.

Dealing with american whitewater/pacific coast is the worst business transaction I've ever been involved in.

So it looks like our next step is conferring with a lawyer and then small claims court.

Wish us luck...any advice appreciated.

I would like to see Mountain Buzz have a separate forum that is devoted to all trailers designed to carry all types of floatables. There's not a lot of info for somebody lacking knowledge about trailers and this site was the best out there for trailer info.

Sincerely,
Ed Skieens

I attempted to correct the photo problem, but was unaware that there was a 15 min. time limit to edit.

I'm hoping the moderators will help me out here.
thanks,
ed
