Raft Sizes?

I was talking with somebody that has a "six man" raft. I'm wondering if there is a consensous about how long this is? 16'? I imagine that 6 man would be three twarts therefore possible 18'???

In short there is no consensus on how big a "six man raft" is and thus it's basically meaningless and mostly used by people who own Saturns.....kidding

I think the old #-man raft sizing system was based on weight capacities not length. So a 6-person raft should be able to hold 1000-1200lbs or so. I think only the Sevylor quality of rafts still use this way to measure.

Here's a link to what I mean, Sevylor Fish Hunter 6 Person Inflatable Boat

If you talk to an outfitter- there's no such thing as a 6 man raft...only 8 and 10 loads. lol

A "six-man" raft is probably an 11-13 foot raft with 2 thwarts. Two in the bow, two in the middle, and the daughter next to the raft guide.

A cheapo blow up 6 man raft means 2 men & 1 child. Leave the camp gear at home & plan to swim back!
