raft patch over rub strake?

hello, I have a small hole in the tube adjacent to (almost overlapping) the rub strake (rubber bumper). not exactly sure how it go there but it looks like part of the pvc and part of the rub strake were worn through. Can I throw a patch over part of the rub strake? I will be going over 2 ridges on the rub strake. if not, can I easily peel off a small section of the rub strake, put on a patch, and then glue the strake back down? Or is this a job for a pro?

thanks for the advice

rub strake patch

To make the boat hold air you have got to patch under the rub strake. If you patch over the strake you will leave a channel for the air to slowly escape, especially if the hole is right against the strake. Depending on the boat you may or may not need heat to remove the strake without delaminating the fabric. If it is a real small hole you only need to peel the strake back an inch and a half or so to get the pach in at least a solid inch past the hole. . There may be seams under the strake so dont get too crazy with the heat if you do bust it out or you risk weakening the seams, baffles or whatever is underneath . Patch the hole and reglue the strake. If you are comfortable with basic repair it shouldnt be that bad.

tarp your boat for travel and storage. make sure the tarp wraps over the sides. it is possible and common that the boat was folded there and took a hit in transit.
