NRS seat bar to cross bar conversion?

I am looking to make my 3 bay NRS frame into a 4 bay, and I have a NRS seat bar that I am not using. Have any of you cut off the the seat mount and then grind the welds down to make a regular cross bar?

You may find the price of a simple crossbar isn't all that much...

$90 is a fair amount. I don't mind spending it if I need to. But if I can take something I am not using and turn it into something I will use, I'm not only saving money, I'm saving room in the garage as well.

I took the bolts out of the ends and spun the plate vertical then drilled new holes. It's a nasty knee buster if my cooler or drybox isn't in the bay but when I'm on the river they don't come out of the boat.

Put it right in front of the also useless stock nrs footbar and you have a great place to affix your river guide

wish I could trade you. I need a seat bar bad. Don't waste your seat bar. Call up your local steel/aluminum supplier and purchase the same length of 1.25 (id) schedule40 6061 aluminum. unbolt your lopros and drill them into your new pipe. Paint or powdercoat it, done. Easy and inexpensive.

I'm a big proponent of repurposing, but 90 bucks seems like a lot for a simple crossbar.

For example: frame pipe - Mountain Buzz Gear Swap

I had the same dilemma a few years back. I sold the seat bar at a gear swap and bought a new cross bar. I'd send a PM to ob1coby and see if you have the size seat bar that he needs. if you do, problem solved.

90 bucks is with the lopros, which you don't need. $5 foot for the pipe from nrs, so maybe 35 with shipping.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Mountain Buzz mobile app

I bought some 1-1/4" schedule 40 aluminum pipe from my local metal distributer for the roller on my trailer. It looked to be same ID and OD as the NRS pipe material. I used the extra to extend my anchor mount so it does not hit my raft anymore. I think I paid $25-ish for 7'. You might be able to just drill the hole for the lowpros and be done.
