New to rafting

Hello,

I'm pretty new to rafting and have only been on a couple runs. I am intersted in purchasing my own raft and am considering a Saturn. I here that the quality isn't bad and the price is one of the lowest that I've seen. Does anyone have any experience with Saturn Rafts? Thanks.

John

Hi John, there are a lot of posts like this on here and on the Raft Zone at boater talk. I would suggest searching around to get a lot of info on the topic. I think the general gist of what you will get from people (like me, many are raft guides, former guides, and/or experienced private rafters) who will say

1. A used "good" raft is better than a new cheap raft.
2. The best way to learn rafting quickly is through an outfitters guide training/hiring class, the second best way is to go with experienced people for a while and have them show you around
3. Everyone on the river should take a swiftwater rescue class

Generally the conversation then goes to who does the best class, who is the best swiftwater instructor, arguments and jokes ensue...

Saturn, Uranus, they are basically all the same

(lightnings's assesment is good. This would be part of the ensuing 'arguments / Jokes' section already... really cut to the chase on this one...)

I meant "here we go" with the Saturn Rafts discussion. I wouldn't expect a Texan to understand that though!

The gates trip is Sunday 3/23, but most may be launching from the B section of Flaming Gorge so the shuttle will be shorter. You had better let takemetotheriver know that you're coming so she can plan to prepare all of your meals for you and bring hot coffee to your tent. Seriously, let her know, she's in charge.

Are you back in town?
