I call mine "The RV" because that's what it is...

My old green Spider was Green Velvet (don't run the gut of Velvet in a 13' boat).
My buddy's red to yellow fade Maravia was the Bloody Banana.
My other buddy's green to yellow fade Maravia was the Herpes Banana.
My other buddy's holstein painted Spider was the Cow.
My other buddy's orange Zephyr is the General Lee.
My other buddy's yellow Zephyr is Tonka Truck. His kid loves Tonka trucks so he had it painted like one.
My lime green Diablo is still trying to earn a name.

I was taught that you must name your boat after the first rapid you flip it in. I live in fear of having to name my boat 23 1/2 or something equally awkward.

hahaa...could be worse...could be named after Indian Dick or Devil's Pendejo or Chicken Raper or any other number of other lewd rapid names.

I had a lady from another trip on my last trip down Lodore bug me every time she saw me that I should name my new white Aire 136dd "Ghost" which I thought was dumb. I don't tend to name my boats or cars, but if you twisted my arm and made me choose I think I would choose "Shadowfax" for my new boat (I'll let another Tolkein nerd explain that one to the less nerd inclined). Since we are going with Tolkein, I might choose "Gandalf the Gray" for my 90's era 16' Avon but that has already been mentioned once for an Avon. I was just thinking that "Hodor" might be a good name for it since its a big friendly boat that takes care of me and keeps me safe in big water. Yes...I like fantasy literature if you can't tell.

We have the Smurfs.
From left to right:

Smurfette (baby blue Lynx with blonde paddle blades)
Clumsy (NRS Rascal that got its name the 1st time my kids had it on a lake and it would not go straight for anything)
Papa Smurf (It's the only red one)
Gutsy (NRS Outlaw that is stable and confidence inspiring)

16' Rocky Mountain gear boat named "Bessie" by my 15 year old daughter, 'cause she's a cow'.

My current boat is named "Deepwater Horizon X"

We all know the fate of Deepwater Horizon I. II-IV met similar fates.

A friend named my red 14' RMR the "U.S.S. Maine." She was christened with a bottle of Spanish cava at the Rome put-in for the lower Owyhee this spring before her maiden vovage.

The story behind the name is somewhat byzantine but it relates to me being designated "HI&RM the Viceroy of Mexican Hat and Governor of New Spain" on a San Juan River trip last fall and my contemplation of raising an army of AK-47-wielding river rats to go to war against the United States over disregard for public lands generally and the Bears Ears National Monument specifically.

That said I've decided I won't be taking my boat to Havana Harbor.
