Motor for Cataract

Does anyone here have a motor I could "rent" for cataract?

I've rowed it 5 times and would prefer my upcoming trip to have a leisurely float with more time for hikes. That and I am a wimp.

You will need to register your boat if you want to motor out.

Just bring a second set of oar locks and team row out with your spares. Motors are weak.

I pushed 4 boats with a 6hp 4-stroke from Sand Wash to Jack Creek (maybe 4 or 5 hours of actual run time) on about a gallon, maybe one and a quarter tops. I kept it at ~3/4 throttle most of the time because wide open made it louder but didn't seem any faster. We were going about 5 mph including the current.

Second merritrd's suggestion of making sure you're registered, it's not worth the fine. Don't try to do it online - go to a state park with the serial number from the raft so that they can actually give you the carbon copy that is your temporary tag. My official numbers didn't show up until almost the end of the 60-day temporary window.

Also: REALLY watch carefully for sand bars and be ready to kill the engine in a hurry. You can chew up a prop pretty quick even on soft sand, and an uneven prop will vibrate and start to tear up the drive shaft bearings. Probably worth carrying a second prop and some tools with you along with the required fire extinguisher...

Good to know- Thanks for the heads up! I'm in the throes of figuring out the frame additions now.
