I was thinking about a way to keep ice out of the water to keep it burning off as fast. It occured to me these grates for a florescent fixture would probably fit the bill. I thought about grinding some reliefs in the corners to allow water to run out when drained. Has anyone tried this/ what are your thoughts?
These are racks out of one of those big grocery store bread carts that were being thrown out behind a closed down grocery store. I grabbed about 5 of them and use them for various projects like this.
Of course it is. I love mine. Besides making the grates like LSB they also have metal trays that slide back and forth on two different levels of rail. I love keeping my produce up higher and my lunch stuff on top. I really do love this cooler. Shout out to 4 Corners for having a great deal on them when I needed one.
Prospector 103 indeed it is. I just got it this spring and spent the summer tweeking my whole situation based on it and the free bimini from Alex (shoutout). The tray that came with it fits in the open spot etc.
I made a plywood ice block mold for my big Igloo that makes a block the exact size of the cooler. I made a block that size for Hells Canyon and it was a little small for the Prospector but I still had a giant chunk after the trip with zero cooler management. We sat and had lunch under the bimini one day and didnt even bother to close the cooler. I did have a foam pad over the iceblock tho.
My only complaint so far is that it is difficult to get my sausage fingers between the latch and the frame bar to pop them open.

I use a windshield reflector cut down to fit over the ice layer. And I did pull my fifth bay (trailer frame) out a little further so I can access the latches better. I do wish the latches could lay down flush when opened. But I am not a good enough engineer to figure that out.
I tore a couple of the rubber part of it so they sent me new ones.
Any tweaks or improvements in the works for the prospector 103 in 2020?
I have been thinking of pulling the trigger on a prospector, but as my hands get older and my fingers become more sausage like these other guys....maybe I should hold out on your sale for the time being . Just a thought. No other multi days planned for this year (womp womp).
I have a canyon 75 and love the thing...great product.
I use rubbermaid dish pans to make ice for my prospector. 3 of them fit perfectly. Now that I have a navigator, I will make some plywood molds, thanks!
Anyone want to buy a hardly used prospector? One MFS and 1 GC trip on it is all. We might have had it for a Main Salmon trip too, not sure. Missoula MT area.
Forgive me if this was already suggested...we have been using a vinyl fence panel with a few added holes for drainage and gription. Sturdy, easy to clean although not as lightweight as other suggested materials.
I saw an idea on pinterest years ago. Someone went to solve a very similar problem. What they did was to fill pvc pipes with alcohol and seal them. They lines the bottom of the cooler with this. Just an idea, not saying your light diffusers wont work.
The idea behind putting the pvc pipes full of isopropyl alcohol is that you can freeze it and have it become like a freeze pack. I never tried this, just thought it was cleaver and it seems like it would do the same thing your looking for with the light diffusers.
