I've been slowly planning for a new boat, frame, oars, and of course a cooler. (Currently have a Canyon cooler) Read lots of great Buzzer comments - saved ideas & photos - then someone posted a positive comment about Kong coolers.
After a bit of research I decided to purchase their small 25 qt. - it went on the Snake, Green, & Flathead - and then the heat test, an 8,000 mile road trip in the back of our suv to service credit card clients.
This thing is full of great features. Fantastic ice retention, stout latches that are easy to use when you've got gear jammed up against the cooler, great divider that will also double as an inside shelf to separate vertically, and super strong carry handles.
Two things that became appreciated - an extra divider and support bracket that serves as a cutting board/food prep table on the outside of the cooler. It rigs and stows really slick. My wife loved having a shelf to set wet items on - instead of on the ground.
The other was a 'Krush Guard' - a simple rubber bumper that prevents the lid from slamming on fingers. There were several times we appreciated our and kids' fingers from being *%#$! It slips out of the way to fully close the lid - nice touch.
It's made in Ridgefield, WA - their customer service and deliver was fast. The price point is not cheap, but the $ spread from small to largest still puts it below the pink boys. My next big cooler will be a larger version.
Check out their website, they've got a great link bottom left that does a good job of explaining the science of ice retention. http://www.kongcoolers.com/
