Kitchen boxes packing on mules

I'm trying to find some aluminum kitchen boxes that We can use on multi day raft trips and also use them on packing trips with mules.

The frontier play kitchen boxes are 38" long. Putting them vertically on a mule, I'd worry about hitting rocks and trees.

Maybe get some custom dryboxes about 32" long that would work packing then when rafting just fill the extra space with 5 gallon water jugs, chairs etc?

Anyone have any good info on this?

Thanks

They can make whatever you need. Probably not cheap.

I see you are in Nye, Check out Mad Cow over in Bozeman. The do panniers as well as dry boxes that are IGBC certified and can probably do about whatever you like. Not cheap, but high quality and locally made.

FWIW, I don't own any of their stuff but hope to someday

I've done quite a bit of packing with horses and mules, and I don't think a river sized drybox would be very convenient for mule packing at all. It could be done if you had to, but it sure wouldn't be very handy for everyday use. A better design might be to have one cut in half and made into two boxes. They could still be set in the same bay on a raft frame, and rigged on each side of a packsaddle. They might still be the wrong shape and weight though.
