Hyside Max 12 ordered!

Well, after looking at used boats for a whole rafting season, I ordered a Max 12 from Hyside. They let you put 20% down and pay it off over the winter. They gave me an April 2nd ship date. I?m pretty excited. I?m going to use it as a paddle boat with my family on our class 3 river in our back yard. Also I?d like to get a frame for it and use it for multi-day trips. It says it has a 74 inch straight tube which seams long for a 12 ft boat. Wondering how big of a frame I can squeeze into this little boat. If anyone has any intel on frames for this boat, I?d love to hear about it. Thanks.

Hyside Max 12 ordered!

I am also buying a new 12.0 Max this fall from hyside! Seems like a good little boat and set up to handle a larger size frame which is what I'm looking for! SYOTR! The website has information on the recommended frame size but I'm pretty sure it is 74" for length.

Your needs might require that longer frame, but check out the lightweight frames Jon the Welder is building for those boats. They look super light weight, and I believe Hyside still shows them on there web site. He is on the Buzz if you're interested.
Not affiliated at all, but they look kinda cool to me, and I'm partial to independent small businesses because I am in business for myself.

I was in DRE the other day and they had one with a frame on it. You could call them and ask them how long of a frame they made for the one on the showroom floor. Just a thought.

I have mine ordered as well. Mine is due in March, and I can't wait! I run a REALLY old bucket boat right now, and am looking forward to a better river runner (no bailing!!!). I've done some extensive backpacking, so I am happy with the size, feel like it will roll better than my 14', be lighter, and yet still be big enough if I pack like a spartan to do multiday adventures with.

In my opinion the 74" is a good number for Max Frame Length. Optimal Max Frame Length (does not ride up on transition) would be 71".

Very impressed with the specs/build quality on the Max 12.0, you guys are going to love them!

Hope to see 'em

Pretty happy with my current 13' setup, but I am a "smaller is better" type, and would love to see what you folks come up with for frames on these 12'ers. I use a NRS compact outfitter frame that I cut down from 78 to 70 inch length on the siderails. Hope to see some of these new setups posted.

We do have a couple of 12' Max's still in stock and we have a floor model on sale. We setup a basic 3-bay 66" long x 56" wide fishing frame on the floor model. 66" is the straight section of the boat. You can go beyond that, but the boat starts to narrow quickly. The way we have the frame sitting on the boat leaves 18" from the front of the frame to the inside of the tube and it leaves 26" from the rear of the frame to inside stern tube. If you want to go longer than 66," you may want to make the frame a little narrower so that you don't have an entrapment issue with your corners. Overall, a 66" or shorter would be the ideal length.

It's been a great boat for us this year. The extra long straight length and three thwarts is what gives it versatility IMO. We have comfortably packed 7 in for class 2 stuff, a little dogish at that weight but we weren't cramped. When it's just the five of us it's handled fantastic. Super happy with it.Click image for larger version
