DIY gravity H20 filter

I didnt want to hijack the life straw thread but thought my homemade filter system may be of use to some.

I decided to make my own for a few reasons. I thought the gravity systems are stupid expensive, I don't like the little fill holes many have on the dirty bag. I also don't really need the clean bag, I am also a fan of the Sawyer filter as you can back flush it in the field.

This system will filter my full dirty water bag in just a few minutes, it is a re-purposed Walmart dry bag that conviently had a purge valve near the bottom. Having an open top also allows you to skim the best water out of streams.

I have made hundreds of gallons of water with this kit and take it virtually on every outdoor adventure. It also works really well with those foldable Nalgene canteens.

I have a katadyn that is nearly identical to that - love it! It was only like $70 bucks (10 years ago). I don't use it much but (never changed the filter) but when we have I love the hands off approach.)

I guess they're a little more expensive now... perhaps I should buy a new filter for it...
