Best Main Salmon Guide Book

Which book do you recommend? I've read reviews, spoken with Rangers office, but wanted to get the skinny from the raw crew... the real deal... the buzzards....

Eric Newells book is hard to beat for the descriptions. He covers high and low water runs. I have an easier time following the map and planning the day with the river maps. I usually take both.

GPS!

Rivermaps has a free download. They should give the trip leader a hard copy, but a gps works best! Some sites go by fast...

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. Leidecker's MF book is incredible.

I agree with the others that Rivermaps is good for finding campsites. The FS map is next to worthless.

I keep both Newell's book and the gov't issued book open.
They work really well together.
If I were going to pick just one, it'd definitely be Newell's.

2nd on Eric Newells book

I'm also fan of Eric Newells book.

I appreciate the combination of the history, rapid descriptions and guidance that you don't get with many river maps.

I had the opportunity to float the Main with him a few years back. He's a first class guy, with a wealth of river experience and really loves this stretch of river wilderness.

Get Newell's book

Newell's book is great. It's filled with first hand info. from someone who knows what they are talking about.
