Anyone carry a sand stake this way?

Sand stake is clipped to the perimeter line and passed thru the bow handle. Our trip leader on GC in March was doing this and it resulted in puncturing his raft. Seemed rather obvious to me at the time that it's not a good idea, but I've since heard of a couple others that do this. The reason I hear is "it keeps it out of the boat away from passengers".

Anyone else done/doing this and have you had any problems?

please don't but go with stabond. Seriously? Do you use Chinese throwing stars for bochie ball? Careful with your hydrogen cookstove. Trip leader should be flogged with a sand covered 6' strap and expelled from all dutys. Was your car at the take out?

Hi,

I used to strap mine horizontally to the top crossbar of my cat frame, with the angled aluminum nested around the pipe. Very convenient and fast access.

FWIW.

Yeah - several safety issues with original picture.
Dry box or captain box for me. I have seen others make a PVC pipe container with a threaded cap, which can be strapped to the front of the boat or frame.

Yeah I ran my sand stake ONCE like that and thought it was a bad idea. Now I toss it in the capt. bag. I would also consider getting a bow line bag for that bow rope. If it comes untied it could be a entrapment issue. They are only about $20. Totally worth it IMO
I did see a River Ranger on Deso doing the same thing...that's where I got the BAD idea

If a passenger went for a swim it could be like a giant snake fang piercing through his rib cage, or if that raft got to close to another boat while cresting a wave and came down on it, would be like a giant snake fang piercing the boat,or if....

Perhaps we should name it "Killer fang raft", every one stay away from that dude, he don't
know what he's doing!!!

I would clearly call this a brainfart. I know this because I have many of them.

Dry box for my stake.
