Aire-Tributary IK floor valve tight

tried to remove the floor valve (Summit ) and broke off of the teeth of the plastic wrench. (it seemed a little faded)

Need to fish out the small broken piece now.

Thinking about going to the metal wrench next.

Any reason for these to be super tight? Other than not being undone since manufactured.

Be careful. I did the same - broke the plastic wrench teeth - moved onto a pair of needle nose pliers and ended up destroying the outer piece of the valve trying to get it unscrewed. Fortunately I had a spare laying around so it was an easy fix.

metal wrench is the way to go. have owned several tributary IK's over the years, and even an old aire cat with HR valves. never had a problem with the metal wrench. (did have some valve issues over the years, but the metal wrench removed all of them just fine)

thanks. Aire makes a metal wrench, I will probably go for that next.

I have two of those plastic wrenches, and the one that broke looked a lot older.

Maybe put a little soap water down there, then heat it gently with a hair dryer then wrench away.
