Looks like the water level has steadied at around 500 cfs for the last few days. Is there a forcast somewhere for water levels? I remember seeing them in the past for Wa rivers but cant find any here.

There are some, just not as many as in the western region. None on the Smith, but you can use the Shields as a trend analog. They are close to size and basin characteristics and not too far apart (share a divide).

It predicts a sizable bump before your trip... hopefully you'll be riding the drop. It certainly won't be too low and I doubt scary high.

Just picked up some skwala dries and nymphs just in case. Have pink squirmy wormy, tan and black pats rubber legs, purple haze, copper john, prince, bunch of streamers, I'm sure I'll be fine. Just looking for that magic fly

The Smith is open and running at above 500. It's kind of muddy so I don't know how productive the fishing will be but the weather for the next few days looks awesome. On a side note, If you have a Smith trip, please spend some money in White Sulphur Springs. Buy gas, groceries, eat lunch, and let the people know you are there to float the Smith. The mining project is still on the table and they are trying to convince the people of Meagher (pronounced MAR) county that this mine on the head waters of the Smith will be good for them. Show the locals that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. The Smith river is worth it!

Steps off soap box and wishes everybody a great day!
Mark

The flows right now are crazy. Median is 350, but it's currently hovering around 1.4k. Today's flows beat that max which was set in 1952 (1,190). Fishing going to be non existent. However, the forecast looks decent.
