Just wondering how bad the bugs are now that the water is dropping down to 5k cfs. Anyone do this stretch lately? Is it bad below Sand Wash? If so, for how many miles? Putting in on Sat!
Bugs were not an issue at sand wash. Some bugs the first two nights, but not horrible. Once we were past cedar ridge, pretty much bug-free. Our flows were from 7000-3500 so ymmv.
We launched on the 24th, took out on the 2nd. There were definitely mosquitoes at dusk at Sand Wash and Jack Creek, but not the biblical swarms I remember from years past. We spent 2 nights at Flat canyon, and there were hardly any by then. I slept out on my boat the rest of the trip. A few horseflies, but no more than one or two a day got a piece of me, and they've met their maker now.
Saw a bear at Flat, it was ambling upstream on the Ute side. Have a great trip!
