Yampa (Dino) in early August?

...got invited on a friends permit. Wondering how brutal are the skeeters then, and if there is even enough water to get down it then?

TIA - Pine

Skeeters won't be too bad. But there won't be any water. You could pull it off in a ducky in 5 days but I wouldn't plan on taking rafts or anything like that.

Unless it was last night, the Yampa hasn't peaked in town. Tonight or tomorrow is a better bet, especially with the cool down forecast for next week. In any case, the Yampa through Dinosaur will almost certainly be pretty low in August barring a huge monsoon.

The news article that said the yampa has peaked was fake news indeed. Also yampa in August will have water. Not enough for a raft but it is boat able no hiking required. Kayak or ducky it.

The skeeters will definitely not be the issue. As said, awesome time to do a small craft with good tracking self support style trip. You will hate yourself if you try to raft it.

The skeerters in Island Park in August will 100% be an issue, but that's your last day and you just paddle through it, don't plan on camping anywhere below Jones Hole, you should be fine until basically the cove camp. But ya, you won't have water, see if there's anyway to trade it in for a Gates of Lodore, you get guaranteed 800+ cfs all year in there, so you can row that no matter what.
