TR: Rafting Upper N. Fk Poudre 6/5/08

Don't really recomend it.

With rain all day and a high of 45 degrees why not close the raft company and go have some fun, perfect day for a river nobody in the group has done.

The shuttle: Get the van stuck and we break out the ropes before we even hit the water.

The putin: Holy shit, to many Cheetos this winter, this is not a easy raft carry, I almost took up kayaking right there. Cool little cacti about to bloom.

Salvation: Actually getting permission to put in on the private land, and a very sweet putin it is. Girls watch out Raftus is one smooth talker. Only downside it's a 1/2 hour before he's suposed to be back at work, we're running a little late.

The run: Good stuff real nice read and run class IV. Although having bushes for a bank and lots of little strainers along with new wood coming down doesn't make for the most comfortable rafting. Scout a few things portage a log. And lunch time (4:00ish), nice calm pool on a rock below the bottom of the longer IV stretch, even a hint of sun. Probably should have streched our legs and seen what was at the bottom of that long pool durring lunch. Cause the 10'er is at the end of the pool. We actually pull a few moves out of our asses and make it through the right channel back to the left above the drop. Which we are all seeing for the first time, as we are dead siedways above it. Making the view even better we suddenly see Ryan fly across the raft into the water in front of us. We actually get the raft eddied out on the left side of the lip of the falls as we see Ryan surface. Make sure Ryan gets to sore and now what do we do? Drop in with no momentum or ghost boat? We go with the ghost boat, disapointing but feels like a good decision still. Damn that boat makes it look easy. We get back with Ryan and find out about running the falls sans raft. Turns out there is a nice leg sized slot in there, glad it wasn't a nice head sized slot. It all seems pretty mellow after that until... The fences. Not the best eddy service for a raft but we portage 3 of them.

9:00- Coopersmiths!!!!
12:00 Idaho Springs.

To sum it up good whitewater if your into that kind of thing, the access makes it not worthwhile. If you actually feel the urge, don't try to putin on where the main road crosses the river you won't be able to get out above the 1st low bridge in a raft.

Hope you got that pioson ivy washed off your feet in time Kyle.
