Rogue River Beginning of April

I got an invite to go raft the Rogue, first part of April. Any thoughts on running the wild and scenic section the first part of April. Looks cold. dry suit??. Also seems like the flows that time of year will be high and can fluctuate depending on rain fall. How are the rapids at higher flows. What about camp options. Any good high water camps people would recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't stress on the camps. Unless its above 20k most of them are still there. above that horseshoe, and a ton of others are open.
Great time of year to go, rapids get easier in my opinion... Canyon gets wider as the flows increase and blossom is a breeze.
You may be in a dry suit one day, and T shirt the next. Ive had some epic april trips down there. snow pack might just be good enough to think about adding some extra miles to your trip.. Just a thought.

Thanks for the quick reply. The river was ripping at close to 70K recently. Bet that was a sight.

With all the rain, I am guessing we might be over 20K beginning of April. Seems like some of the rapids wash out at the flow, would you agree?

Do many people get out in April, or do most wait till May to float, not sure what to expect as far as crowds.

Thanks again for all the info. This is our first trip on the rogue, so not sure what to expect.

I don't think you'll see a ton of people. Ill tell you that you wont be able to use the preferred shuttle route (Bear Camp) You'll have to go the long way around, which will be a pain but its a cool drive. You'll follow the coastal highway home.
I agree most rapids wash out, I don't know if you'll see 20k, its possible, don't forget its still dam controlled and they tend to hold water back, a big rain and or snow melt event could get you to that level though.
At 20k You can run right over the top of Rainy falls, SOME of the smaller rapids have large waves but its mostly just squaring up style boating.
IF it its at 20k you could do all 35 miles in one day. Might consider starting higher up or just knowing your going to camp more and raft less.

I'm planning an April trip if we get a nice weekend as well, great time of year to be down there IMO

I would guess it will be 10k plus but definitely under 20k unless were getting heavy rains. Highest I've been down was 25k January a few years ago, it took 6 hours from Rand to Foster. Plenty of camps considering very few people should be down there. Spring rafting on the Rogue most of the rapids are washed out, hydraulics in Mule Creek are very strong and maybe a boat flipping hole or two at Blossom that opens up around 15k? If doing a multi day I would start at Hog Creek that time of year.
