Raft storage?

So I had the idea of rolling a nrs 120 otter and putting it in a 44 gallon brute Rubbermaid trash can to keep the mice out. We have limited storage space in our garage. Any thoughts or suggestions on why this is not a good idea?

You gotta make sure your wife never takes the trash out

NRS recommended to fold the raft rather than roll it, that was my main concern. Can anyone explain why fold rather than roll. It seems to me there is more stress on the folds rather than the continuous roll.

It's best to keep it unrolled, partly inflated. Most of us don't have the luxury of that kind of space though. NRS recommends folding because it makes for fewer creases. Rolling it should be fine. I wouldn't vacuum it empty, though- that really puts tight creases in the material.

Agreed. Folding can create semi-permanent creases at the folds, which might become weak spots. I roll my raft. I'd always heard that was better. I'm surprised NRS would specify folding.

A friend rolls his 16' raft and then stands it on end in a big Rubbermaid bin.

Thanks for the input. I don't feel so worried about it now. It fits perfectly in the Rubbermaid and I 303'd it really good, so I'm hoping all will be well.
