Paddle raft in Deso/Gray: how bad an idea?

the title pretty much speaks for itself. I'm wondering how bad the flat water (ok, so the whole run) would be without a rowing frame.

I don't think you will have any volunteers to paddle the raft by the second day.

If there is no wind, it wouldn't be too bad. But sitting in an open boat (no sun cover) and fight the wind in a light paddle boat would be tough. But anything is doable....

You going to have other oar rigs on your group? Just daisy chain together with the paddle rig in the middle and rotate rowers often. Should be fine.

We daisy chained 4 oar rigs on our last trip and went down to Jack Creek on the first day with no motor then took a layover at Log Cabin. Like Alex said, its all doable.

Would you be supported by oar rigs or just taking the paddle boat? I did Deso with 5 guys in a 12' paddle boat (bucket boat) supporting one kayaker at 27K cfs once. Since we didn't know any better we all had a great time.

27k! Wow, did you have ANY rapids then? Seems like everything would be washed out. At that flow even a paddle boat would be cruising fast down river.

We'd have support, but the paddle raft would still have to haul some gear. Regardless, the flow will be low (early Sep), so we could end up having some tough days when the wind picks up.

You should just let Preston row your boat. It'll be all nice and shiny after getting it back from Maravia. Help a brother out!

Or better yet, let my wife row it. She guides rafts in Grand Canyon, so you know she's a professional.
