Does anyone know what river camps are like for overnight or multi-day raft trips on the North Umpqua River in Oregon? There are a number of Forest Service campgrounds along the river but I haven't been able to find any information about finding random camps along the river that are only accessible by boat. I scanned the river on Google Earth and it looks like beaches are few and far between, particularly on the side of the river opposite the road. Is it better to just float from campground to campground? We'll be two people and one 14' raft so we don't need a lot of room. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.
There aren't many beaches on the upper NU. Some small cobble bars and ledge rock. If you're on cots you could find places but nice sandy beaches for tents are few and far between. Most folks car camp and do day runs. Campgrounds fill up on most summer weekends and sometimes during the week.
The only camping is in the campgrounds. If you wanted to try to camp along the river hammock’s are about the only way. Plus it’s mostly day trips.
