North Fork Clearwater

We are looking to raft the N. Fork Clearwater from Weitas Creek to Aquarius Campground around July 23. Does anyone know if there is enough flow to raft that entire stretch?

It's currently running 1,400 at Canyon Ranger Station, which is probably too low for rafting.

The lowest I've run it was around 3,200 in a kayak, and it felt super low, and was extremely boney. One person in our crew managed to get down it in 12' cataraft, but he said it was more trouble than it was worth at that flow.

The section above Washington Creek might be your best bet to try first. It seems more channelized up there at low flows from what I remember.

Here is a write up I did on it.

Thanks very much. Would you expect adequate flows from Quartz Creek to Aquarius, or the same as above?

Hard to say. From Quartz Creek down its a lot less technical than from Washington Creek to Quartz Creek. But I think its probably too low.

That being said, the North Fork is an awesome places to camp and to explore, so in my opinion a trip there is always worth it, even if you don't get to boat. I would go, but have a plan B in case you can't get down it, knowing you might well get skunked.

There also isn't any easy access to put a raft in the water at Quartz Creek, unless you have a small, light raft or a strong crew.

I'll do some more asking around.
